Why is it happening?
Well in case you’ve been living under a rock the last few years, you would have caught a glimpse of the Rattiest Cities in Canada Guide. And in BC, Vancouver has been #1 for 5 straight years.🏆
Rodent numbers is flourishing, and it’s thanks to our mild climate and growing population. Any populous city is bound to have rat problems. Where there is people, there’s garbage… where there is garbage, there’s rats. Specifically in downtown areas, where that video was shot, we have a concentration of restaurants, bars, and condos that generate waste, which means we’re going to have rats.
Is it to do with BC’s ban on rat poison?
The media have talked about raising concerns about a spike in pests resulting from recent changes in regulations around rat poison in the province. There is an awful lot of confusion around the use of rodenticides, referring to first generation and second generation. A recent report on Global News, Westside owner Mike Londry spoke with Jasmine Bala to clarify what was happening.
